The World
An age surrounded by mystery, set in a world in turmoil where fighting for what you believe in is the only way to survive. In the land of Alasea something stirs in its slumber that threatens to wipe out life as we know it. Something Powerful, Something Dark, Something Evil that cannot be named. The people who are brave enough to talk about it call the entity one of many things such as “The Dark One” while many simply say “The One Who Cannot Be Named”
The Dark Ones Power stretches beyond its slumber to those who hope to gain immunity and/or great power from its rise. Its servants are called the Ill'Guard who are rare and powerful Elementals that have been captured and there power twisted by only the most powerful Dark mages using a very rare and much avoided item called Ebonstone, an unbreakable Pitch Black stone with silver veins running through it, this stone carries the Ill’guards power but not everyone knows about it. The stone is so black is sucks in the heat from the area it’s in leaving a cold presence. To look at it would churn even the bravest people’s stomach.
In this world magic isn’t the best of things to wield. The true essence of magic died a long time ago and all that’s left is Black and Evil magic’s. There are people who try to use it for the forces of good such as “The Mages Of Light” but people are weary and others are there at every turn to question them. Elementals are the closest thing to true magic that is left but it isn’t the magic that controls the person, it’s the person that controls the magic. Elementals aren’t specially chosen so the people that wield the powers could be either Good Or Bad.
In the past countries have fought wars and battled for there lives, as is the way of the world. Nearly all of the great cities that once stood now lay in ruins or badly damaged. Races have lived and died or been ran from there home lands to make new homes elsewhere. Most of the other races have been forced to certain lands and sections of the world, normally living in huge groups and fitting entire civilisations into small areas. The Si’Lura (Shape Shifters) have been forced to hide in the forests of the western reaches. The Elvin have abandoned the land to live in the sky, a magical shelter of clouds and storms surround them and protect them, also giving them small natural gifts of the element Wind. The Merai have also left the land behind and have been forced into the seas when they banished people to live on the land. In the sea they live in big living creatures where they have massive colonies, each one is there equivalent to a tiny country. Most BloodRiders have decided that they are better on the seas and live in ships, only stopping at land for supplies where others spend half there time on the land and half at sea. Dwarfs are a race that have been told to have served the Dark Lord and have thought to have been wiped out; no one knows where they reside because no one knows they still live. Og’re’s also have there share of the western reaches, living in the mountains in two separate tribes, one near the northern fang and the other at the southern fang. This leaves the Nyphai who have thought to have been wiped out by the Elvin. There magical home has been destroyed and twisted by wraiths of the fallen. Only one Nyphai now lives but that isn’t known to anyone as even her friends that she recently travelled with thinks she is dead.
In normal cities of humans, most people work during the day, hard labour for a good amount of money which they mostly spend in Taverns and Bars. Most Taverns are filled with people drinking while watching entertainment that is provided by the public and sometimes travelling bands and entertainers which are rewarded with a room for the night, a hot meal and sometimes a temporary Job for the custom they bring in. In all the towns function as they should and are unaffected by the outside world until they wander in and look for unexpected trouble.
In a Nutshell: This is a world completely different from real life. It's not set in modern times or in the past, think of a traditional Fantasy setting like the "Lord Of The Rings" Setting but more gothic and instead of people loving Magic they don’t like it and are weary or nervous around it. Humans don't like change or differences so other races are frowned upon but of course you get your exceptions.
